Apple iPhone5
Apple iPhone 5 is the sixth generation of iPhone family, following its predecessor iPhone 4S. It is the slimmest, lightest and the largest display iPhone ever made adorning a 4 inch screen with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. One of the most delightful experience of a smartphone can be attributed to Apple's latest operating system iOS 6 and its especially made for iPhone 5, processor - Apple A6.

The A6 processor is suppose to be twice as fast as the iPhone 4, yet smaller in size and more energy efficient. Its further complemented with a 1GHz RAM which is double of iPhone 4's 516 MB RAM . Apple also designed a new chip A6 to make sure that even the resource intensive applications, like motion games, have a super fast response rate but still keeps the battery consumption in check. In order to support the higher energy needs of iPhone 5 and yet keep the phone slim, Apple engineers have altogether developed a slim yet powerful battery. It offers 8 hours of 3G talk time or browsing, 8 hours of browsing on Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video playback and a long standby time of 225 hours which means little over 9 days.

Another big story to talk about iPhone 5 is its Retina Display. At 1136 x 640 pixel, it's one of the highest resolution display available today. Pixel density is so high that we can't distinguish between two pixels with our eyes, resulting in a life like image experience.

8-Megapixel, iSight Camera is one of the most famous camera around. It automatically adjusts its focus and colours so that anyone can click great pictures. It also offers HD recording at 1080p, new Panorama view, faster picture taking time. Critics state that the output of iPhone 5's camera is even better than the most higher Megapixel smart phone cameras.

Options for entertainment and productivity tools are unlimited with over 8 Lac exclusive Apple apps available on its iTune store. Another added advantage versus other mobile phones, is iPhone's ability to download the OS update directly without any transfer through a computer as in the case of Android, BlackBerry or Nokia.

iCloud is another impressive feature which stores entire data online and seamlessly sync it with all other Apple devices the user uses, making all the files available on all devices. Equipped with 4G LTE network capability and dual band 802.11n wireless connectivity can speed up the Wi-Fi up to 150 Mbps. iPhone 5 also comes with an updated version of Siri, which has gotten much more quicker and responds to a wider variety of requests.

India saw iPhone 5's launch in November 2012 within 2 months of the global launch in September 2012.Apple iPhone's share in India might not be huge as of now but the share of its fan base in the country is already very high. It is well reflected in the fact that the moment apple actively started announcing about iPhone availability in India - towards the end of 2012 with the launch of iPhone 5, their market share immediately jumped to 15.6% from a mere 3.9% within a quarter.

Variants and Prices (India): Price in India ranges from Rs. 45,500/- to Rs,59,900. It's available in 16, 32 and 64 GB variants.

Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy SIII is the next in the Galaxy S series after S & SII. Galaxy SII marked a big milestone in Samsung's Smartphone journey. At the time of its launch, 13 Feb 2011 at Mobile World Congress, we did not have anything else in close vicinity to Apple's iPhone. Galaxy SII changed the tide and made the latest and the most advanced technology accessible to millions, removing the price barrier iPhone posed. SII was the first big hit for Samsung in smartphones. Moving forward, Samsung did not take long to raise the bar for its flagship product and introduced Galaxy SIII on 3 May 2012. Galaxy SIII is definitely a big leap over Galaxy SII. SIII became such a rage that 20 million units were sold within 100 days of its launch and over 50 million units have been sold till now. Such growth spurt clubbed with success of other Android based models placed Samsung at the Global Leader Pedestal in smartphones.

Samsung claimed that Galaxy SIII is "inspired by nature and designed for humans". The claim clearly reflects in the breakthrough features of SIII which significantly reduce the human intervention and takes the device to the next level of intuitiveness. Following are few of the salient features of SIII feature offerings:

  1. Smart Stay - Screen will stay bright and will not go dull while user is looking at it. It only turns to energy saving mode when users looks away from the phone.
  2. Direct Call - While reading a message from a friend, if the phone is lifted to the ear, friend's number automatically gets dialled.
  3. Smart Alert - If the user has been away from the phone, then a vibration alerts the user as soon as he holds the phone about a missed call or message.
  4. S Voice - Phone can take instructions to answer incoming calls, click photo and execute many other commands.
  5. S Beam - Music, videos, pictures and other documents can be transferred by tapping two SIIIs together.
  6. Smart Keyboard - It intelligently recognizes the next letter based on the typing pattern and proximity to a particular key which helps avoid possible typos and aids in fast typing.
  7. Best photo - Just like a human, SIII can pick the best shot out of the 8 different shots it instantaneously clicks with 8 MP camera. Which is further made better with simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection and image stabilization.

Galaxy SIII comes with the one of the best displays from Samsung - Super AMOLED HD display with 306 ppi pixel density at 1280 x 720 resolution. Screen is good 4.8 inches with a Corning Gorilla Glass. All the amazing features and high screen resolution provide a power packed performance with Quard-core 1.4 GHz processor and 1 GB RAM. A good processor and RAM deliver an awesome experience with 7 sensors, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, Compass and Barometer. SIII comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is upgradable to Andoid 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). Battery is decent to last a day at 2100 mAh. It's a sleek phone at 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm and only 133 g.

Variants and Price (India) : Samsung Galaxy SIII is available in three internal storage options - 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Price ranges from Rs. 28,000 to Rs. 49,000 depending on the internal memory. Range of colours available is quite wide for SIII - Pebble blue, Marble white, Amber brown, Garnet red, Sapphire black, Titanium grey, La Fleur.

To me, it has to do with the quality of the workmanship. The Galaxy is plastic.. and feels cheaper to hold. The iPhone 4 and 5 feel like your holding something that quality workmanship went into. (as with most of their products, wish I could afford em)

I like all the new features of samsung phones, but when it comes to performance, screen and reliability, samsung has a long way to beat apple

Couldn’t agree more with you. You are basically saying when it comes to key requirements of a mobile phone - performance, screen resolution and reliability iPhone 5 is the choice and Samsung is yet to learn to make smartphones which stand true on above 3 parameters :)

I’ve had both and love the S3 screen more, but the iPhone is the most stable system where it’s completely reliable, when my S3 would slow down badly and freeze at some times even though it has better specs throughout. Also i can’t argue that the iPhone 5 design is simply amazing!

I am sure whatever little fan following is left with iPhone is soon going to dwindle away once Samsung Galaxy S4, gets launched tomorrow in New York, Times Square. It won’t be long before it will land up in India and washout iPhone5 completely. Just remember every single feature in S4 is going to be one-up than iPhone5

Galaxy S3 hangs too much. Samsung should focus on the quality of their smartphones.

@ Sac, being slave to Apple any day would be sensible than becoming friends with Samsung. Apple as a master is at least dependable, Samsung as a friend could ditch you anywhere. Look around and ask people who have used a Galaxy S3, how they have hated their phones for getting hung-up and its a similar story with other Samsung phones as well.
